I just wanted to say this pregnancy thing so far pretty much sucks. I'm tired and I feel like I'm on a boat like 75% of the time I'm awake. I don't want to throw up anymore and I don't want to wake up feeling like I barely slept. I want to have massages every day and eat whatever I want and not feel bad that the stuff is fattening me up beyond recognition. I want to be able to complain once and awhile because in t-minus 6 months I'm going to have to be a responsible mother with a baby to take care of 24x7. In spite of all these mostly negative ramblings, I do love my unborn baby sooooo much. Most conversations I have with him/her are fairly one-sided...and I do insist on Nate kissing my belly goodnight, which is pretty fun. All in all I'm finding that the whole expedition is not all rosy, and I don't even think I have a glow...
I just think it will be fun to meet this little thing when it finally gets here.

Hey, I linked to you guys via Linseroo!
had to laugh when I read your post.... I had the same realization when I was pregnant the first time. The whole "pregnancy is this beautiful, glowing event" thing is a myth. The reality is you will get no sleep, you will feel nauseous, you will be exhausted because a) you got no sleep and b) you are creating a human being and its work and you will get larger. I had this idea that pregnancy would look like the women in those pregnancy mags... yeah, not likely. I looked like a mac truck. SEXXY.
OH but it gets better... soon you will have trouble breathing as the baby will be pressing against your lungs. Short walks on flat surfaces will leave you out of breath.
Then the baby will begin to press down on your bladder. You will feel the need to, well you know, every 5 minutes. You will loathe drinking anything because it will only make it worse. If you are really lucky the baby will mistake your bladder for a trampoline and jump on it. Eventually the baby will turn (which you will be thankful for) and settle with his/her large skull right on your bladder, feet in lungs.
The baby will kick and it will be great fun but as things get tight, the kicking becomes more constant and less amusing. Then you will get a kick to an internal organ and you be even less amused!
you are settling into the only phase where you might actually get some sleep - 2nd trimester. Stock up. In the third trimester you will be uncomfortable and will need to visit the bathroom all night. Preparatiion for after the baby is born.
A great woman told me something once (she works at the midwive's office, her name is Trudy) Pregnancy is well designed. Its like a warm up for parenting: it teaches teaches you to function on less sleep, to eat more and to accept a few new pounds. And although you start thinking you will never be ready to actually endure labor and are fearful of it, by the end you are just begging to get it over with because you are sick of being large, having to pee, and not being able to breathe!
Okay so have I depressed you yet? There is good news :-) despite the pain and suffering, it is indeed worth it. Nothing compares to it. Its worth every minute of sufferring and after all is said and done, you will do it again which I suppose says that the payoff must be worth it!
And while you won't sleep again once the baby is born (in other words your days of regular sleep are over ;-)) eventually the baby and future babies will reach an age where they will sleep and you will be so excited and pleased at the ability to have a full nights sleep. Suddenly something so "simple" will become the best thing ever! Which I suppose is good because once you are a parent you become too broke to buy yourself treats because you are spending all of your money on the baby... free luxuries are all we have ;-)
I promise it is worth every moment of pain! But you know that already!
